was browsing ebay and ran across this listing for a stanley #7 jointer. it is a bit tatty, but looks as though it would clean up ok. needs a new handle which you can make or buy.

might be a cheap option for those who want a big plane.

These usually go for $35 and up by the end of the auction, so you should be able to get it in the door for under $60 with shipping....less with luck.
Every eBay seller wants just two bidders- both of whom want the item and don't know the real value!
As a buyer, sometimes you can find a deal with items that have a spelling mistake in the listing or some other problem that keeps them from turning up in most item searches. There are often 'parts lots' of plane bodies, etc as well- though this is more for the tool collector/nut crowd- not like us folks here, right??
Cheers

I recently got a #7 off eBay for $36, $48.60 w/shipping. In reasonable decent condition, needing the usual clean up, tuning & honing. Your item looks like part of the rear handle is broken off, so bid accordingly. Lots of #7's show up on eBay frequently, so lurk around awhile and you'll get one eventually. Everyone recommends replacing the blade & cap with Hock iron which is said to make a big improvement.
